PGA/PGM

Checkpoint System
The PGA/PGM™ is a program of materials with required assignments, training and testing administered by The PGA and offered annually by each PGA Golf Management University. Students must pass The PGA's three Checkpoints in order to graduate from the PGA Golf Management program. PGA professionals come to campus to administer Checkpoint tests and conduct Checkpoint seminars. At UNL most of the testing is conducted during the first few days of Spring Break. Students pay full costs of this program, which include the three sets of materials, seminars and Checkpoint tests (see Costs ).

Player Development Program
The Player Development Program at UNL includes the following components:

  • Participation in a minimum of three tournaments per semester.
  • Instruction by the PGA teaching professionals and play at Wilderness Ridge (WR) Golf Course:
    • small group lessons.
    • one-on-one meetings with students at least one time each year.
    • year-round access to the indoor practice facility.
    • optional at student's own expense: may contract for individual lessons with WR teaching pros.
  • Students whose playing proficiency needs to improve to stay "on track" with their cohort will receive free individual assistance from the PGA Golf Management Coordinator, who is a PGA Member.
  • Mandatory attendance at PGA Golf Management Student Club meetings at which guest speakers will share information and insights about the golf industry.

Playing Ability Test (PAT)
Students are to take the PAT once the first year and at least twice each year thereafter until passed. Students are encouraged to take the PAT three times each year after their first year until passed. The PAT will be administered by the Nebraska Section of The PGA. Students pay the cost to participate in each PAT. Information on PAT registrations, scoring, dress codes, and other PGA requirements and policies can be obtained via the Nebraska PGA's PAT site .
